New Activities and Restaurants in The Crags and Keurbooms

Posted on Tue September 25, 2018.

Hiking with a registered Field Guide, Stand Up Paddleboarding and Champagne Cruises on the Keurbooms this Summer ! We also have a fabulous new restaurant !

We are very pleased to support new businesses in The Crags and Keurbooms areas.

Our local forest expert, Mark Jones has started Brimful Adventure Trails.  Mark is an expert birder and conservationist and has an enviable knowledge of the local animals and plants in the forests and fynbos.  He really is fascinating to listen to and will take you on a guided hike of your choice.  Phone Mark on +27 (0) 72-3037710 to book.

Then if, like me, you have always wanted to try Stand Up Paddleboarding and always gazed down the Keurbooms River wishing you could meander down it, try Supingkeurbooms !  They have daily departures at 10 am and serve champagne and snacks after Suping activity.  Minimum 2 people and Maximum 10.  This is a new venture by Hog Hollow.  Phone to book on +27 (0) 60 998 1518.  If you are not "up" to paddleboarding then join them on a Champagne Leisure Cruise in the afternoons !

We really can't complain about the fabulous farm stalls that we have with Natures Way Farm Stall and Bread and Brew, not forgetting Moss and Maple and Thyme and Again in Keurbooms.  The Peppermill Cafe offers an upmarket menu at very reasonable prices and they do the most delicious pizzas !  Open at night from Wednesday to Saturday only in season and the July holidays.  The wine farms, Bramon, Newstead, Kay and Monty's, Redford Lane and Lodestone all have delicious lunch time menu's and of course the Kurland Hotel and Lily Pond offer an upmarket meal in the evenings.  (Bookings essential for these last two).  Of course we recommend all our guests to the famous Enrico's Ristorante at Keurbooms as well !

Our latest neighbour is Villa Villekula which we are very excited about !  South African Cordon bleu cooking in  farm-style, 'off-the-grid' venue complete with a wood-burning stove and a donkey keeping an eye on proceedings !  It is the next road up from Askop Road, towards Nature's Valley so about a two minute drive from Treehouse Cottage and The Carraighs.  Willie and Daniella cook and serve the food themselves and they are open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for dinner and every day for breakfasts. A menu like this has to be tasted !  Booking essential.  Phone Willie on +27 (0) 82-5340360.  Willie sends their dinner menu out a few days in advance (it is different every night !) so ask your hosts to forward it to you.  You will not be disappointed, this is a real treat !  Dinners are two courses for R200 per head.  No liquor licence so bring your own.
